Previewing and Link Checking

Edited

Once you’ve programmed your survey on the Questions tab, there are a few different ways to preview and test it before launch.

Previewing Your Survey

At the top right corner of the green navigation bar, you’ll see a button with an eye icon and the word Preview. Clicking this opens the survey in test mode in a new window.

In this view, you’ll see three main panels:

  • Left panel (Questions) – Displays the list of questions with their numbers, labels, and text. You can scroll or click a specific question to jump to it directly.

  • Center panel (Survey View) – Shows what a respondent would see, including the question text and response options. Use this panel to test logic like exclusives, anchors, and randomization.

  • Right panel (Question Details) – Displays each question’s ID, a direct link to that question, and—in more complex surveys—details about required responses or quotas (for example, “Quotas must pick female”).

Pro Tip: If you skip around instead of proceeding in order, certain logic like piping, routing, or carry-forward may not work as expected. For that reason, we recommend testing your survey from start to finish, including different paths.

Previewing a Specific Question

You can also preview an individual question from within the Questions tab.
After saving a question and locking it into the layout, look for the
eye icon labeled Preview current question near the top of the question editor.

Clicking this will open the same three-panel preview – starting at the selected question instead of the beginning of the survey. This is a great way to test formatting, grid layouts, image displays, or randomization for a specific question.

Reviewing Survey Links

From the Build Survey tab, click the Review icon (the check mark in the checkbox). You’ll find two key links here:

  • Test link – Opens the survey in programmer test mode, including the side panels for detailed question and logic information.

  • Preview link – Opens a cleaner version that shows only the respondent view, without programming details.

Testing Before Launch

Before launching your survey, always run through the full test link to confirm that everything functions as expected. Check that:

  • All quotas are working correctly

  • Routing and skips behave properly

  • Randomization and exclusives perform as intended

  • Media or images display correctly

Feel free to share the test link with teammates for additional checks. Even a quick second set of eyes can catch issues you might have missed.
